Named for her hair that resembles the color of sunrise, Princess Aurora, daughter of King Hubert, was promised at birth to wed Prince Phillip, the son of a neighboring king. To celebrate her arrival, the king invites three good fairies to the castle, but not the evil Maleficent, who cursed the baby to die before her 16th birthday by pricking her finger on a spinning-wheel spindle. The night of her 16th birthday when the fairies are to return her to the castle to be crowned princess. At the castle Maleficent lures Aurora to a room containing the kingdom's only spinning wheel, and causes her to prick her finger. But thanks to the good fairies' protective spell, she falls into a deep sleep to which only the prince's kiss of true love awakes her to live happily ever after.
